Tern of the Century is one of the most beautiful rental homes in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and is perfect for vacations, family reunions and corporate retreats when luxury, privacy and flexibility are high priorities.  This beautiful seven bedroom home enjoys a prime oceanfront location on almost an acre of land just north of Duck, a cute area of shops and restaurants. Just a short walk away are tennis courts and one of the highest acclaimed golf courses on the East Coast, The Currituck Club.

Upon entering Tern of the Century you will realize you are about to enter a truly unique and beautiful home.  Pale green marble floors and antique furniture beckon you into a bright, well fitted library with an antique oak fireplace, a perfect spot to gaze upon the breaking waves just outside.  Three bedrooms on this level have King beds and one has two Queens, all have private in suite baths with imported marble floors and all have private decks or porches from which to enjoy the ocean’s sounds and smells. In addition to the Library on this floor, there is also a sitting room, which serves as an office complete with computer and fax machine.  We now have high speed internet on a Dell computer. We have also added wireless internet connectivity! Surf the internet or check your e-mail from anywhere inside or outside of Tern! This room is connected to one of the King rooms and can be used as a nursery (crib provided) or a toddler’s room (sofa sleeper).

A grand foyer with an antique chandelier from a former Governor’s mansion and a circular staircase leads up to the Great Room with its stunning view of the ocean. A soaring wall of glass is the only thing that separates you from the dolphins, pelicans and wonders of the beach. Over the fireplace are commissioned leaded stained glass doors where the resident Blue Herons stand waiting to be admired. The huge kitchen is a gourmet cook’s delight with dual 4-burner glass cook tops, double ovens, Corian countertops, four sinks and two dishwashers.  Plates, glassware and silverware for 48 as well as professional cookware are provided. The dining room table seats 12, and the turret seats 6 at a custom made Italian ceramic table. A beautiful wet bar with ice machine and separate serving area is adjacent to the kitchen.  A large sundeck off of the Great Room provides an unobstructed 180-degree view of the ocean from North to South where you can enjoy the dolphins frolicking, the pelicans flying by or the bluefish fisherman chasing the “blues” along the oceanfront.

Also on the third floor is the Media room with a Sony 50" Grand WEGA widescreen TV with Dolby digital surround sound and free Netflix movies.  A wonderful Ships’ Watch flies above the Foyer below and provides a quiet reading area or a view of the Currituck Sound – don’t miss the spectacular sunsets from this unique perch. The King Master Bedroom and sitting area on this floor is a very special space, the spiraling four-poster bed is in a turret that has the ocean just outside the windows.  The marble bathroom features a whirlpool tub with an antique crystal chandelier, double sinks and vanities, a dressing chair, private water closet, antique mirrors and a 5 foot marble shower with double shower heads - pure luxury!

The lower level of Tern of the Century features a game room with a pool table, air hockey, foosball table and a kitchenette with a refrigerator and a dishwasher.  A separate area is for the kids and features board games and a 36” TV equipped with Nintendo Wii gaming console.  There are two bedrooms on this level, one with two queens and one with a queen and a daybed which sleeps two; each room having its own full bath and private vanity.

A private 16’ x 32’ pool, a hot tub for six, an outdoor ping pong table and a pirate ship playground complete this all around great beach house. If you are a guest of Tern of the Century you may play golf at the nearby private country club, The Currituck Club.  A double car garage, elevator and landscaped lawns add to the luxury, convenience and privacy that you will enjoy at Tern of the Century.
